My App Store Impressions Jumped 200%. But Almost Nobody Downloaded the App.

What’s worse than getting no traffic? Getting 200% more traffic… and almost no extra downloads. That sent me down an ASO rabbit hole.

By JR

My AI fitness app, Reset90, suddenly got a huge jump in App Store impressions.

The chart looked amazing.

Impressions were up almost 200%.

For a moment, I thought something finally clicked.

But then I looked at the download numbers.

Almost nothing changed.

Daily installs stayed in the single digits.

My conversion rate dropped to the lowest point since launching.

That was the moment I realized I had a much bigger problem.

I Stopped Building. And Started Learning.

Instead of writing more code today, I spent the entire day learning about ASO (App Store Optimization).

Because getting traffic isn’t enough.

If people visit your App Store page but don’t download your app, something is broken.

Today became a full ASO rescue mission.

Here’s everything I changed.

Marketing Gets People to the Door. ASO Gets Them Inside.

I’ve been posting consistently on TikTok and Reddit. - Check this article of my marketing strategy I posted previously for the details if you are interested

That probably explains why App Store impressions suddenly increased.

People were searching for Reset90.

So marketing was actually doing its job.

But the downloads told a different story.

I finally understood something important.

Marketing brings people to your page.

ASO convinces them to install.

01ASO Fix #1 Better Metadata

Visual from the founder's experiment

One of the best ASO resources I found came from an indie developer making over $50k MRR.

His biggest takeaway was simple.

Your App Name and Subtitle matter more than almost anything else.

Your most important keywords should be in the title.

So today I updated everything.

App Name

AI Fitness Coach: Reset90

Instead of only using my brand name, I added the keyword people are actually searching for. - No ones know branch Reset90 now but "AI Fitness Coach", so put it to the front.

Subtitle

Workout Planner & Nutrition

Simple.

Clear.

Easy to understand.

Keywords

I also filled all 100 keyword characters with high-intent search terms.

02ASO Fix #2 Better Screenshots

You only have a few seconds to convince someone to install your app.

Most people don’t read.

They scroll.

Fast.

So screenshots matter a lot.

Instead of lifestyle photos, I wanted people to immediately understand what Reset90 actually does.

Workout plans.

Progress tracking.

Body analysis.

Everything is much clearer now.

But here’s something I don’t want to do anymore..

I started using Apple’s Product Page Optimization.

I’m running a 50/50 A/B test.

Half of visitors see the old screenshots.

The other half see the new ones.

I’ll let real users decide.

Not my own opinion.

03ASO Fix #3 Reviews Matter More Than I Thought

Good keywords help people find your app.

Good screenshots help people click Install.

Good reviews help people trust you.

Reply Every Review!

04Final Thought

Visual from the founder's experiment

ASO Isn’t the End. SEO Comes Next.

Even after all these ASO improvements, the reality is simple.

Traffic is still tiny.

Improving conversion only matters if people are actually discovering your app in the first place.

That’s why my next focus is SEO.

Over the past few days, I’ve started setting up Google Search Console, improving my website, and learning how to rank for fitness-related searches.

Instead of relying only on social media, I want people to discover Reset90 organically through Google as well.

The goal is simple:

More search traffic. More App Store visitors. More downloads.

There’s another exciting milestone too.

Today, the Android version of Reset90 officially went live.

Now the app is available on both iPhone and Android, giving me another channel to test acquisition strategies and learn what actually works.

SEO is a completely different game from ASO, and I’m only getting started.

I’ll share everything I learn in a future article.
