The $10 ROI: How I Started Building an SEO Engine for My AI Fitness App (Real Strategy Behind It)

šŸ“ˆ Shipping features gets you a product. 🌱 Building SEO gets people to discover it. Here’s everything I’m learning while building Reset90 AI in public.

By JR

How buying a domain changed the way I think about building products.

For the first month after launching Reset90 AI, I was obsessed with shipping features

Every day I asked myself:

ā€œWhat should I build next?ā€

I assumed a better product would naturally attract more users.

It didn’t.

Then I realized something obvious: it didn’t matter how good my app was if nobody could find it.

My website was on a free Vercel domain. I hadn’t submitted a sitemap. Google barely knew my site existed.

That changed my mindset.

Instead of asking, ā€œWhat should I build next?ā€ I started asking, ā€œHow will people discover what I’ve already built?ā€

That led to the first marketing investment I made: buying reset90ai.app.

Not because a custom domain magically improves SEO, but because it made me think like I was building a real business instead of just another side project.

01SEO Isn’t Magic. It’s Infrastructure.

The more I learn about SEO, the simpler it becomes.

Its job is straightforward:

Help people discover your product when they’re already searching for it.

Instead of interrupting people with ads, you answer the questions they already have.

Unlike paid traffic, good content can keep bringing visitors long after it’s published.

SEO is slow, but it’s one of the few marketing channels that compounds over time.

02Part 1 — Introducing Yourself to Google

Visual from the founder's experiment

Before Google can rank your website, it has to know it exists.

The first thing I did was set up Google Search Console and submit my sitemap.

I think of a sitemap as a menu for Google. Instead of asking its crawler to wander around my website, I simply tell it which pages exist and which ones are new.

Seeing my first sitemap marked as Success wasn’t exciting because it meant traffic.

It was exciting because Google finally knew my project existed.

Every SEO journey starts there.

03Part 2 — Building Content That Deserves Traffic

Once Google knows your website exists, the next question is simple:

Why should it send people to your site?

My answer is building three types of content.

Together, they create a simple SEO ecosystem.

Strategy 1 — Long-Tail Content

Visual from the founder's experiment

The first pillar is my blog.

Instead of targeting massive keywords like fitness or workout app, I focus on specific searches people are already making:

  • Best AI fitness apps in 2026
  • Home workout apps for busy professionals
  • AI fitness coach reviews

These readers already have intent.

My goal isn’t to game the algorithm—it’s to write the most useful article I can.

Whenever possible, I write from real experience: what worked, what failed, and what I learned.

AI can generate content.

Experience can’t.

Strategy 2 — Build a Character, Not Just a Product

Visual from the founder's experiment

Most product websites look the same.

I wanted Reset90 AI to feel different, so I created Coach Bruno—a green bull representing consistency and discipline.

That expanded into comics, educational content, and product guidance.

Will comics rank for competitive keywords?

Probably not.

But they make the product memorable, increase engagement, and give people a reason to come back.

SEO isn’t only about getting clicks.

It’s also about keeping attention.

Strategy 3 — Free Tools

Visual from the founder's experiment

The third pillar is free tools

Instead of asking visitors to download my app immediately, I want to help them first.

Someone searching for an AI body analysis or fitness calculator should be able to use a useful tool before they ever hear about Reset90 AI.

If the tool genuinely solves a problem, trust comes first.

Downloads come later.

That’s a much stronger relationship than clicking an ad.

04Part 3 — SEO Is a Feedback Loop

I used to think SEO meant publishing articles.

Now I think publishing is just the beginning.

Every page generates feedback.

Google Search Console tells me:

  • Which pages get impressions
  • Which keywords people search
  • Which pages earn clicks
  • Which titles people ignore

Those numbers tell me what to improve next.

SEO isn’t guesswork.

It’s continuous iteration.

05The Hardest Part

Visual from the founder's experiment

The hardest part isn’t writing.

It’s patience.

As engineers, we’re used to instant feedback.

Write code.

Run it.

See the result.

SEO doesn’t work that way.

Pages can take weeks to be indexed and months to rank.

That’s frustrating.

But that’s also why SEO compounds.

Most people stop before the results begin.

06Final Thoughts

A few weeks ago, I thought building software meant writing code.

Now I think it also means building discovery.

A product nobody can find is almost the same as a product that doesn’t exist.

Buying a domain.

Submitting a sitemap.

Writing articles.

Creating characters.

Building free tools.

None of these are extraordinary on their own.

Together, they’re becoming an organic growth engine.

I’m still learning, and I’m sharing the process as I go.

Hopefully my mistakes can save someone else a little time.
